Blue Monday? We Turned the UK’s Most Depressing Day Into a Day of Joy
Blue Monday might have the reputation of being the gloomiest day of the year, but we had other plans.
At Slice, we are all about community and giving everyone a slice of the action. So, this year we took to the streets with a mission: flip Blue Monday on its head and spread joy, one slice at a time.
Share Something Nice, Get a Slice
On a dull, grey Monday morning, four Slicers set out armed with trays full of mystery prizes with one aim: make people smile.
The rules were simple - share something uplifting with us, and get a mystery slice-themed prize in return.
From Lola’s cake slices and stress-ball slices to watermelon keyrings and pizza sweets, everyone who took part walked away with something to brighten their day.
We hoped a few passersby might stop by and join in. But WOW… people showed up!
We had:
- Spontaneous dancing
- On-the-spot singing
- A full ballet moment
- Heartwarming stories
- Uplifting thoughts
- Magic tricks
- Strangers complimenting strangers
- Pet pictures
- The splits!
- And even a 3 minute long Donald Trump joke
We gave away loads of mystery prizes because everyone wanted to get involved in spreading joy.
Blue Monday may have the reputation of being bleak, but seeing the energy from everyone who joined us proved something important: People want to share joy - they just need an invitation (and a little freebie!)
