February Pop Culture Round-Up: Awards Season Takes Centre Stage

Awards season is officially in full swing! The red carpets are rolling out, acceptance speeches are being polished, and the internet is buzzing with reactions (and, of course, memes). With the Grammys kicking things off in style and the BAFTAs, Oscars, and BRITs just around the corner, this season is where film and music take centre stage.

So, let’s dive into how the Grammys went down and what we’re looking forward to in the coming weeks. Plus, we got some insight from our team on their favourite artists and films of the year so far.

Grammys 2025: A Night of Highs, Lows and Viral Moments

The 67th Grammy Awards had its fair share of drama - with plenty of headline-making moments to keep us talking:

  • Beyoncé finally wins Album of the Year - after years of near-misses, Queen Bey broke the streak with Cowboy Carter, making history as she took country music to the top and finally secured the Grammy.

  • Chappell Roan steals the show – Not only did she light up the stage with her performance, but her speech advocating for better healthcare support for young artists became one of the night’s most talked-about moments.

  • Kanye and Bianca take the spotlight – Kanye West made headlines yet again, but this time, it was his wife (soon to be ex-wife) Bianca Censori’s nearly-naked red carpet look that had the internet in a frenzy.

What’s Next: BAFTAs, Oscars & BRITs – More Drama Incoming!

The Grammys brought chaos, but awards season isn’t done yet. Here’s what’s about to take over your timeline:

🔥 BAFTAs (Feb 16): The Brits love a good underdog story—will a surprise winner shake up the Oscars race? Plus, David Tennant is hosting, so expect some peak British humor.

🏆 Oscars (March 10): Hollywood’s biggest night is coming, and with Wicked and The Brutalist leading the buzz, we’re ready for red carpet looks, emotional speeches, and at least one internet-breaking moment.

🎤 BRIT Awards (March 1): Charli XCX is set to own the night, but the big moment? Sabrina Carpenter making history with her Global Success Award. Add in Jack Whitehall’s chaotic hosting, and you’ve got a recipe for viral gold.

Which show are you most excited for?

We Asked Our Team: Who’s Dominating Music & Film This Year?

We couldn’t talk about pop culture without getting some thoughts from the team. Here’s what they had to say:

Jenna, Marketing Director

The girls took over the Grammy’s this year and my favourite songs and artists of the last year were pretty much all featured there. II Most Wanted by Beyonce and Miley Cyrus, Everything from Chapell Roan’s album, Tortured Poets Department from Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter’s album, they’ve all been on repeat for months.

Shout out to the Encanto soundtrack too - an absolute banger. My two year old twins are obsessed with the film. We don’t talk about Bruno, no no no.

The TV show that I wanted to tell everyone to watch was Nobody Wants This on Netflix. So good! Ooh and Presumed Innocent on Apple TV with Jake Gyllenhaal.

Stephen, Global CTO

TV last year? Top-notch. Slow Horses was sharp, dark and funny, True Detective bought the drama, and Mr Bates vs The Post Office proved reality is wilder than fiction. Day of the Jackal had me hooked - could’ve easily binged that in one sitting.

Films? Barely made it to the cinema, but Small Things Like These and The Zone of Interest were intense and worth it. Still need to watch Perfect Days and Kneecap asap before someone ruins them for me.

Music? Found some gems - new to me, at least. Trombone Shorty bringing New Orleans vibes, Athletic Progression came to the party with danish hip hop and jazz, Lady Wray banging out the soul, gospel and R&B - all top-tier. Niall McNamee was unreal live - his debut album’s coming soon, so jump on the bandwagon early.
